US 2 - Panama 1 in Quarter Finals

Jay DeMerit rode the pine once again as the US advanced to the Gold Cup semi-finals. The US will host Canada at Soldier Field tomorrow (Thurs.) night. Kickoff is 6 pm and the match will be carried on FSC.

2007-2008 Fixtures Announced

The Hornets start their season off August 11 with a road trip to visit Molineux Stadium and take on the Wolverhampton Wanderers. League Cup ties were also announced today with Watford hosting League One squad Gillingham F.C.. The first Championship League match at Vicarage Road will see the Hornets hosting fellow relegatees Sheffield United. Two months and counting.

USA 4-0 over El Salvador

Team USA picked up a full 9 points in the preliminary round of the Gold Cup competition with a 4-0 drubbing of El Salvador. DeMerit did not play and USA star Landon Donovan was pulled after the first half. Quarter finals are Saturday against Panama. Kickoff is 3:00 pm St. Louis time and the game is being televised on FSC and Univision.

My bad - the kickoff is 6:00 pm Central. I'm planning on catching the match at Hawk's Bar & Grill in Madison (jambalaya is the special today!) at the suggestion of Chris Rumbelow of the Madison United FC.

US vs. El Salvador Today

The USA national team looks for a sweep of the first round tonight as they take on El Salvador fresh off their 1-0 victory of Guatemala and 2-0 shutout of Trinidad & Tobago. Jay DeMerit started the T&T game and saw some playing time in the last 15 minutes of the Guatemala game. Kickoff is 8:00 pm St. Louis time.

Jobi McAnuff

The Hornets nab their 4th off-season pickup with acquisition of Jamaican midfielder Jobi McAnuff. McAnuff has bounced around the FA since 2001 - spending the last two seasons at Crystal Palace. He was also on the Jamaican national team in 2002. The winger spent a good deal of last season injured.

DeMerit Rides the Pine in 4-1 USA Victory

I don't want to make this an 'All Jay/All USA' blog during the off-season, but those of us in states have to take what pride we can in our locals. Unfortunately, that didn't amount to much as Jay was the only sub not used in Saturday's friendly over China.

The good news in there will be three chances in the next week to catch Team USA and Super Jay in the preliminary CONCACAF rounds (all on FSC - all times Central):

June 7 - 8:00 PM vs Guatemala
June 9 - 4:00 PM vs Trinidad AND Tobago
June 12 - 8:00 PM vs El Salvador
