Watford Cut Three - Trim Payroll

The Hornets let go of some expensive "talent" last week with the departure of Nathan Ellington, Liam Henderson, and Mat Sadler - on loan to Preston North End, Rotherham United, and Shrewsbury Town respectively.

Ellington, who cost Watford a club record £3.25 million transfer fee, and Henderson scored only 5 goals between them in 69 appearances.

Sadler put in 30 appearances for the club and played an adequate role as a defender.

The club collects no transfer revenue, but is expected to trim £1 million from the payroll.

The bidding will continue . . .

Rise & Shine: A New Jay DeMerit Documentary

I preferred the title, "A Yank PLAYS for Watford", but pretty neat just the same.

Here's the trailer for a new documentary on Watford's old captain:

Kudos to Danny Graham on the nPower Football League Podcast

The penultimate nPower Football League Podcast of the season is light on Watford news, but does give credit to Danny Graham for his stellar season (and fuels the move to QPR rumor).

Saracens at Vicarage Road for Another Year

The Watford rugby club have announced they will remain at Vicarage Road for the 2011-2012 season. Another season of bumpy pitch, yes (though the Hornets seem to have adapted their play to it and use it to their advantage), but another season of revenue as well for the cash-strapped club.

Preston North End 3-1 Watford 16-13-17

Well, I blew this one. For some reason I still had the original date of Sunday on my calendar for the final match of the season. Imagine my confusion as I stared groggily at the computer at 6:30 yesterday morning wondering what happened.

Malky gave one of his young Irishmen, Sean Murray, his first start and brought on another, Tommy Hoban, for the experience. Danny Graham set up Andreas Weimann early to give the Hornets an early lead, but the home side answered and then some to leave Watford with more losses than wins for the season.

The next match is Saturday, July 9, a pre-season friendly at Boreham Wood. The 2011-2012 season proper starts Saturday, August 6.
