Charlton Athletic 1-2 Watford 4-1-4 13 pts.

Despite being down to ten men in the second half, Watford hung tough and pulled out a three point result against Charlton on a 25 yard Almen Abdi free kick.

Fernando Forestieri brought a bit of his European elan to the Championship, getting himself carded for encroachment on a free kick and diving by Premiership ref Mike Dean.

Before that however, Tommie Hoban managed his first first-team goal in the 29th minute, a pinballing rebound off a free kick, only to have the Addicks equalize when Ricardo Fuller split the defense five minutes later to slot one past Manuel Almunia.

Charlton pressured Watford but did not change their formation to play against ten. Fittingly enough, Abdi's loping shot came off a free-kick when the man disadvantage was at its least.

The win leaves Watford in the top half after 9 matches. Their next is Saturday, October 6 as Vicarage Road hosts Middlesbrough. Kickoff is 9:00 am St. Louis time.
