Watford sealed their return to the Championship today by overcoming a two goal deficit to pick up the win and three points in the league table.
A lackluster defense let Freddy Eastwood sneak in a goal in the tenth minute to put the Hornets down a goal at the half. The half-time talking-to seem to do no good as a Ross Jenkins foul on Robbie Simpson lead to the second Coventry City goal in minute 54.
But . . .
Tommy Smith answered the goal four minutes later with a right-footer from inside the penalty box and this seemed to light a much-needed fire under the Hornets. Attacking play followed culminating in a Jobi McAnuff corner that was headed in by Grzegorz Rasiak in the 62nd minute giving Watford the single point they needed to ensure they would avoid relegation.
Not satisfied with a single point, Watford resumed the attack and at minute 74 Rasiak got his own assist - heading the ball to a waiting Tamas Priskin who back-heeled the winner past Keiren Westwood.
The final match of the 2008-2009 season is a week from tomorrow - Sunday May 3 at Vicarage Road against Derby County. Kickoff is 7:15 am St. Louis time.
