Finally.
For whatever reason and after four years without a sound card on the old machine, I was able to get the streaming play-by-play (and post-match show) at work yesterday. I need to block out all my Tuesday afternoons from now on. But enough about me - what about the match?
Finally.
Malky Mackay gets his first win as Watford's permanent gaffer in what could be dubbed "The Tommy Smith Show". Brushing aside constant rumors about his immanent departure, Tommy managed one goal and three assists in the Hornet victory.
A terrific cross to the far post set up Danny Graham's header in the 31st minute to put Watford ahead. The lead held until injury time at the end of the half when Dexter Blackstock split Adrian Mariappa & Jay DeMerit to all but carry to ball into the net.
A terrific save by Lee Camp of a Smith shot rebounded straight into the path of an oncoming Lee Williamson who put the Hornets back on top in minute 76. Four minutes later Smith got a goal of his own thanks to an assist by Ross Jenkins and many Forest fans made for the exits of City Ground.
But Forest weren't done yet. Dele Adebola was in the right spot to put the ball past Scott Loach and begin to mount a comeback.
The comeback died when the Dickensian-named midfielder Tom Cleverley, signed on loan Monday from Manchester United, scored his first Watford goal to nail down the three points.
The Hornets return home to Vicarage Road Saturday, August 22 to host Blackpool. Kickoff is 9:00 am St. Louis time. I'll be on the road, but hopefully an assist from the wife in tracking the match on the Blackberry will do the trick.
