The 2010 - 2011 unbeaten streak came to an end today as did Watford's League Cup run when League One side Notts County upset the Hornets.
Malkay Mackay fielded a young squad with Rene Gilmartin in goal for his second League Cup match, Adam Thompson making his debut and Troy Deeney making his first start.
The squads carried a nil-nil score into the half, but a booming free kick by Stephen Hunt shortly after the restart tipped the scales in favor of the Magpies. Eleven minutes later Kevin Smith headed in the insurance goal, needed it turns out, to stave off Troy Deeney's header, his first goal in a Watford jersey.
The match also saw Danny Graham go off with a groin injury late as well as the return of Jon Harley to Vicarage Road for the last eight minutes.
Next match is Saturday, August 28 when Watford hosts Leeds United. Kickoff is 9:00 am St. Louis time.
