Norwich City 2 - 3 Watford 1-0-0 3 pts.

Watford tops the table!

OK, so it was the only match played on this first day of the season, but still . . .

It was a see-saw battle at a rainy Carrow Road. New captain John Eustace drew first blood as he left-footed a Don Cowie corner into the bottom left of the goal in minute 14.

Danny Graham scored ten minutes later (asst. Marvin Sordell) and the Canaries' fans feared a repeat of last season's 7-0 opening day drubbing as Watford took the 2-0 lead into the dressing room at the half.

Andrew Crofts narrowed the lead to a goal seven minutes into the second half, but Graham recaptured the two-goal margin in minute 83 (asst. Stephen McGinn) with his second goal of the match.

One minute into the four minutes of added time and Micheal Nelson fought back for Norwich City, but the Hornets held the lead and racked up three points.

The match saw the debut of striker Troy Deeny, just signed from Walsall today.

The next match is a League Cup affair next Tuesday, August 10 at Aldershot. Kickoff is 1:45 pm St. Louis time.

Editor's Note: I've caved in this year and will start listing scores the standard home-team first rather than Watford-first.
