LC: Darlington (2-1) aet

Too close.

It took extra time for the Hornets to advance to round three of the League Cup today at Vicarage road. Watford looked to have the match in the books with Damien Francis's unassisted goal in minute 36, but the Pilgrims rallied three minutes into added time in the second half when Gregg Blundell tied the match (asst. Brown).

The sides had skirmished a bit earlier and Blundell and John-Joe O'Toole were both shown yellow cards in the 83rd minute. Lionel Ainsworth joined the rogues' gallery two minutes later.

O'Toole proved the deciding factor in minute 116 when he right-footed a headed assist from Al Bangura from 18 yards out to cinch a berth in round three for the club.

Scott Loach managed four saves in over two hours of play in the net for Watford. The next match is this Saturday, August 30 at home against Ipswich. Kickoff is 9:00 am St. Louis time.
